Mandalas
Weaving the Spiritual and Artistic.
Mandalas are round spiritual symbols that represent the universe. They can also be powerful storytellers. For people living with dementia, unlocking past experiences can be hard and mandalas may be able to help. They create opportunities for conversation and connection.
Participants weave the yard and ribbon around a series of nails. A simple circle comes forward out of a confusing mass to become something recognizable and familiar. The repetitive action encourages mindfulness and moment-to-moment awareness. Watch the video to learn more.

Question

Wondering if I can get some more specific info on the string art mandalas on the website.. eg. process/materials used to coat the nails to make it safe for seniors and the design/hardware regarding mounting these on a wall or how to make them spin. Thank you! Great idea

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide your feedback. The residents coated the nails with acrylic paint once the nails were in hammered into the mandala. We had a volunteer make a "lazy suzan" mounting system for the wall. If you are looking for ways to make a "lazy suzan" perhaps try search for online video tutorials.
